ENTER MY CONTEST: Leave a comment on this post about why you love to read medievals. Three commenters will receive Castles, Knights and Chivalry. This boxed set of 4 medievals that released 8/1 features At His Command by me and books by Laurel O’Donnell, Elizabeth Rose and Kathryn Loch.
ENJOY OUR RECIPES: Here’s mine! I thought about including a medieval recipe from one of the great books I have about medieval food, but decided on this one instead.
Love chocolate? These easy cookies may not be the most attractive in the box, but they taste amazing. Let me know what you think!
Chocolate Nut Drop Cookies (Selma Weiss)
Melt in double boiler (my mom figured out you can microwave in a glass bowl):
1 can Eagle milk (I figured out you can use low fat or fat free)
1 1/2 c. chocolate chips
2 T butter
Mix in well:
1 C sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 C chopped nuts (I prefer walnuts)
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 12 minutes. Watch closely so bottoms don’t burn. Makes appx. 60 cookies.

I do love historicals in general, to be honest, and not just medieval. I'm not exactly sure why I do like reading them…for sure in reality those times were hard and difficult, but being so far detached from our everyday modern life I guess we're allowed to romanticize them,to somewhat dream of times where honour and chivarly were not considered old-fashioned. They almost become a sort of fantasy genre…a sort of 'believable' fantasy which I do like! The historical facts may prove us wrong, but surely fantasying is never a bad thing.

I love visiting place you can only visit in a novel.

Because the men were chivalrous and sexy
catedid says
I enjoy reading medieval stories because it takes me to another place. I love learning about how people lived in another time, which makes me appreciate what I have now.
Petula Winmill says
I love Medieval Romance because you can stretch our imagination by taking us to a totally different time to anything we could know. The heroes are so strong but the heroines have to be strong as well.

catedid, Debby and Petula: Learning about another time and being taken to another place are reasons why I write medievals. I love delving into my research books to find interesting (IMO, and I hope yours, too!) facts and details.
Christina and Elisa: interesting that you'd use the word chivalrous/chivalry…yesterday was release day for the boxed set Castles, Knights and Chivalry with my first book, AT HIS COMMAND, and books by two other authors on this hop, Laurel O'Donnell and Elizabeth Rose.
Elisa: I hadn't really thought of medievals as their own fantasy genre…interesting.
Kelly Thompson says
I never enjoyed history in school, but I love reading about it in books. Of course, there is definitely a LOT to be said about the men!
Allison says
Medieval Romances take us to a simpler but more dangerous time than the more common Regency romances. People are more isolated and must rely on themselves more. This is why I love to read Medieval romances.
Melissa Ogletree says
I love medieval novels because it's so different from our own time it adds to the escape as it's a whole other world than where we live. I also like the added chivalry, not to say you don't get that sometimes in contemporary novels but it's on a different level in medieval novels. Add to that the customs and formalities and it's a wonderful place to escape to!
Jean MP says
It takes me to a time when there was honor and a code that was lived by. It is a nice escape for me.
Felicia says
I enjoy Medieval romances because there were so many rules and boundaries set by tradition and society that separated men and women even within the classes, but love always finds a way to overcome and prevail.
divavixenqueen says
It's a nice retreat to a long gone era and you get learn a thing or two that you might not have learned about before. *And a guy in a kilt only adds to the appeal.*
Nancy says

I love history but I was into Regency historical until I found myself fascinated by the medieval times because it covers many centuries and I have learned about the diverse cultures, clothes, politics, weaponry, etc. And the times of knighthood and chivalry are fascinating and fraught with the possibilities of romsnce.
